Purpose is smaller than it sounds

Meaning is usually assembled out of being useful to specific people, not discovered in one piece.

Purpose is often described as something you find — a single answer that arrives and reorganises your life. That version is rare enough that waiting for it is a poor plan.

The more ordinary version is usefulness. You did something that mattered to someone, and it was specific: a lift given, an hour of help, a skill lent to a person who needed it.

That is not a lowered ambition. Most people who describe their lives as meaningful are describing years of this, accumulated, rather than a single decision.

It also has the advantage of being available today. You do not need to know what your life is for in order to be useful to one person this week.
